Pterygium Eye Surgery in South Florida

What is pterygium surgery?

A pterygium is a pinkish, triangular, noncancerous tissue that can progressive grow onto the cornea. It may also cause irritation and can typically involve both eyes. Pterygium is most common among people who spend a great deal of time in the sun.

Pterygium surgery is performed when the pterygium shows progressive growth, causes excessive irritation, or leads to decreased vision. Dr. Chocron removes the abnormal tissue from the cornea and the conjunctiva and uses a conjunctival autograft and ophthalmic glue for a no stitch closure. His technique has a much higher success rate than other surgical methods in which recurrence rates are higher.
